Looking for a fun and educational way to spend the weekend with your family? Check out Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site, located just a short drive from Graue Inc.
New Salem Village
This reconstruction of the historic New Salem village is meant to mimic what the settlement would’ve looked like in the 1830s. This is where former President Abraham Lincoln lived for six years as a young adult. Lincoln is said to have worked various jobs while he lived in New Salem, including as a store clerk and as postmaster.
Kelso Hollow Theatre
Lincoln’s New Salem Historic Site offers plenty of activities for you and your family to take part in while you visit. You can take a tour of the town or watch a performance at the Kelso Hollow outdoor theatre. When possible, there are also events held on the grounds throughout the year, including antique shows, concerts, and festivals.
And if you love the outdoors, there is an onsite campground to stay at, with shower buildings and electricity. The New Salem site is even close to Lake Petersburg, which is perfect if you want to swim, fish, and kayak during your camping trip.
