You can make the most of the winter season by exploring Illinois with your family. Check out these fun winter activities to add some excitement and joy to your weekends.

Hockey games

On select days, the Peoria Civic Center hosts the Peoria Rivermen. You can catch one of the team’s thrilling hockey games and then grab dinner at one of the downtown restaurants.

Ice skating

If you want to skate around the ice yourself, you can head to the Decatur Civic Center. The rink is open to the public for ice skating and also periodically has hockey games.

Outdoor Exploration

To enjoy the outdoors this winter, go on a hike in Starved Rock State Park. There are 12.3 miles of trails as well as 14 magnificent frozen waterfalls to discover. You can spend the weekend here by staying in a cabin or in the lodge, which has a hot tub and an indoor pool.

Snow Tubing

Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve provides a great hill for snow tubing. The 891-acre preserve also is the perfect spot for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing along the 5 miles of trails, where you can catch incredible views.
